Cheryl Cooney is a pianist and composer who has lived in Canada, Austria, the U.S. and France.  Her extensive repertoire includes works for all genres and has been performed in Canada, the United States, South America, and Europe.   She is an alumna of the U. of A., the Mozarteum (Abschlüss Diplom), UBC, and MSU (Ph.D) and her mentors include Helmut Brauss, Erika Frieser , Anton Kuerti, György Sebok, Sandor Vegh, Cesar Bresgen, Elliot Weisgarber, and Jere Hutcheson.   Cheryl is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre and is actively involved in the production and performance of new music at home and abroad.  She voluntarily coordinates the First Thursdays in the Snell concert series at the Red Deer Public Library as part of her effort to promote art music.  Dr. Cooney, a Banff Centre Leighton Artists’ Colony and Recording Residency recipient, has received multiple commissions and guest soloist invitations.  Among her CDs are recordings of her works with orchestras in Kiev, Ukraine and St. Petersburg, Russia.
